[ No one questioned anything when William suddenly left his office that morning. "I've been called to a meeting" was all the information he gave the rest of Dispatch. To them, it wasn't surprising, seeing as he was the head of the department. For William, however, the summoning came with zero notice. As he made his way to the upper managements' offices, all he could wonder was what issue his subordinates caused that he'd have to clean up after, this time.

It wasn't until lunch break that William returned to Dispatch. The others expected they'd get reprimanded for something, but William remained quiet, his face expressionless as he closed the door to his office. ]

[ His eyes narrow on hers with a warning glare. ]

Something I would very much like to avoid. So I suggest you abide by the rules they've set for you.

[ He's not suggesting. He's commanding. ]

[ A huff-- although, that steely gaze has her shoulder rising in a shiver that she wiggles off with a chuckle. As though she wasn't already entirely enamoured with him this evening! ]

You're retired, they can't expect anything of you.

[ His face relaxes, if only slightly. ]

Retired. Somehow that still sounds like a foreign concept to me.

[ As such, so does hers. ]

Mn, I'm still looking forward to what you'll decide to do with all of this infinite free time of yours.

[ She holds a hand out to him. ]

I am making my first priority sleeping in. Assuming I don't need to get you out of trouble before your shift's barely started.

[ Spoken as he takes her hand, pulling her to walk comfortably by his side, shoulders lightly touching. ]

[ Humming - mostly in delight, but partly with amusement - she threads her fingers into his. ]

Well then, I'll just see to it that I my constrain my spectacular antics to more reasonable hours!

That isn't what I meant you should do.

[ Of course she knows this, so he merely shoots her a brief glare as they leisurely walk across the plaza. ]

[ With a giggle, she leans in to snuggle against his shoulder, also briefly! ]

Mn. You don't know how good this feels, Will.

That isn't necessarily true.

[ Peeking up at him, her brows raise, but there's nothing but admiration in her eyes, really. ]

Did I not tell you, the other day, that I was finally feeling happy again, after so long?

[ Her eyes fall to the cobblestone beneath their feet, a healthy rose tinting her cheeks as she nibbles at her smiling lips. ]

You did. I haven't forgotten, but it's so lovely to hear again.

[ He nods, understanding that sentiment, as well. ]

It honestly is nice to hear. Though, I suppose you've been saying so to me for a long time.

Oh, I've said many things to you, I'm certain. [ A chuckle. ] But that might be the best of them. You certainly make me a better-- death god, as it were.

[ A short sigh as he recalls just how lewd Grell's comments can get. ]

Yes. We've all seen proof of that during the brief amount of time you were without me.

[ The redhead hums sharply in agreement. ]

I'm rather astounded you've any interest in me after seeing such a state, if I'm to be honest.

[death_glare]

Honestly, I was rather pleased to see you that way.

[untodeath]

[ Her head whips to look at him, visibly taken aback! ]

My word. We certainly are a pair, you sadist.

[ With a sigh, she flips back her hair with her free hand. ]

I suppose I won't have to fret about being a good girl.

[death_glare]

[ Her response takes a moment to relate back to what he'd said. And once he realizes where her misinterpretation was he gives her a decently hard smack to the top of her head. ]

Not out of enjoyment. My meaning was that it was the first time I'd seen you in such a vulnerable state. It was genuine. There was no loud, flirtatious, flamboyant act being put on.

[ With a yelp, she hunkers down to press that same hand over the newly sore spot atop her head. Her whining subsides once his words register, however; in fact, she becomes almost too quiet! ]

You-- think it's an act?

[death_glare]

[ Ok, she's still misunderstanding. He huffs, stopping to get her to face him. ]

Not an act, then. [ He thinks on how to reword it. ] A safe fallback. Much like my own tendency to hide behind my work.

Seeing you so broken, even when I told you I was returning, said a lot more than your usual way of squealing and clinging to me. It solidified all your claims about your feelings for me.

[ The redhead searches his eyes as he speaks, fully attentive. Clearly, she wants to understand. ]

--Ah. [ Idly pressing her lips together, she looks down to take his hands. ] You might be right, then. Either way.

[death_glare]

[ He watches her for a moment, unsure if she really comprehends what he's saying. Finally with a short sigh, he moves closer to take her in a surprisingly gentle kiss. ]

[ Grell eases into his kiss all too easily, hands resting against his chest, before running along the fabric of his coat and grasping onto its lapels.

Strangely enough, she does understand, and she can't even be upset that he'd doubted her for so long over such a thing. Really, she too in shock to be called out on it and not immediately default to denial. It's actually registered that she's been covering so much with her antics, and that it's more obvious than she would have liked. ]

[ Though the kiss is brief, he allows her to cling to him after their lips part. ]

Does that make things any clearer for you? Or have I completely distracted you with that kiss?
